Atkinson & Lawrence, Inc. was founded in 1956 by Arthur (Art) Atkinson and B. (Larry) Lawrence, Jr., both of whom had worked for Boston area based manufacturers’ representative firm. Like many young men of an entrepreneurial spirit in the prime of their life, Art and Larry saw an opportunity to start and grow their own business. They found that their skills were complimentary to each other. This era was a time of rapid advancement in burner and boiler technology, and the two young businessmen worked tirelessly to grow their company. The business was started with a firetube boiler product line, and within a relatively short period of time the company had expanded its product offering to burners, feedwater systems, oil pumping systems, and related boiler room equipment. The company’s product lines have evolved over the years, but the core business has remained centered around commercial and industrial boiler room applications, including building heating, water heating, and steam process. In 1973, Arthur Atkinson became the sole owner of Atkinson & Lawrence, Inc. Art retired in 1994 after more than a half-century of work in boiler room equipment sales, and was succeeded as President by James (Jim) Atkinson. Art Atkinson succumbed to various health problems on his 83rd birthday in June of 2006 some 50 years after he and his partner founded Atkinson & Lawrence, Inc. Jim Atkinson became the sole owner of the company in 2000. Atkinson & Lawrence, Inc. is active in all six New England states.
